UX / UI workshops conducted by Mr. Vallabh Munshi on June 15th and 16th 2013 at startup village kinfrapark - kalamassery. Me and Arun ag participated from Cabot. Total 15 members participated in this workshop. It was a very nice workshop. First session started with self introduction and then he divided members as small groups as 3 or 2 of them in each team. First he started with a small game.
1. Deductive Reasoning
In this game one of us was asked to think of a person , and others needed to ask 20 closed-ended questions and find the answer.
First was easy since the person was Sreesanth. The second seemed to be tricky since the answer was Batman. No one is thinking about a comic character.
This game taught us to think out of the box.
2. Lateral Thinking
1) A gardener was asked to plant 4 trees , in such way that all of them are equidistant from each other. How can he do that ?
Everyone assumed the ground is flat.
Everyone assumed the ground is flat.
Answer : on the four corners of a Triangular Pyramid
2) Split the Square in four equal parts.
Many of us used straight lines.
He asked why can't we use curved one.
3) Design a bicycle for the postman (Time 30 minutes).
Rules of assignment : Forgot your age, qualification and competency, Think like a 6 year old child, Do not bother about the cost, material and technology, Waste ink, waste paper, waste your brain, Sketch and make notes all over the place, Nothing is ridiculous, do not judge your friends, Do not judge yourself, Discuss, laugh and make noise.
It was a very nice assignment, funny ideas and drawings came from all guys. As a client we judged all ideas and drawings. The second session was User Experience,
4) Redesign the passport application system (Time 6 hours.)
There is an alarming rate of rejection in passport applications, for both - the paper and the electronic version.
A design professor wrote an article in a paper on this issue and pointed out that - "The problem is not that our people don't understand the application, the real problem is that the application
Does not understand people."
The Government of India has now decided to completely revamp the application process. They wish to make the process fast, nimble and idiot proof.
Your Design studio has been commissioned to redesign the application system with a focus on the application form design. Provide a conceptual service blueprint on this process and redesign the application system with a focus on the application form design. Provide a conceptual service blueprint of this process and redesign the application form.
Then on that session began with the brain exercise.
We all gave so many ideas, That day last one hour we all team did new ideas and sketches for next day presentation.
One sample given below:

Second day we presented our ideas and wire frame designs. From given time limit we all did a good job and he gave criticism on all designs and ideas. From that main session we learned so many things, especially user experience for all kinds of users, how to make products (Web, mob app or anything else) more user friendly, useful product and attractive.
Given below images will show you what is really user experience :
Last session he has shown some presentation of UI principles, examples, his experience and end of the session we got a chance to ask questions related to our project work and career. Overall it was very nice and useful workshop.
Conclusion :
User experience (UX) involves a person's emotions about using a particular product, system or service. User experience highlights the experiential, affective, meaningful and valuable aspects of human-computer interaction and product ownership. Additionally, it includes a person’s perception of the practical aspects such as utility, ease of use and efficiency of the system. User experience is subjective in nature because it is about individual perception and thought with respect to the system. User experience is dynamic as it is constantly modified over time due to changing circumstances and new innovations.
